How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
As a teenager, I enlisted into the US Air Force. The only career fields available at the time where SP (special police) or vehicle mechanics. Since I had a passion for cars and motorcycles, I elected the mechanical career field. I enjoyed taking inoperative vehicles, finding what was wrong with them and then putting them back together successfully and providing ongoing maintenance. Some of the vehicles I worked on were used in WWII, which means they had been in operation for 40+ years - that amazed me!
After my military days were over, I worked in Corporate American for 10 years and was very fortunate to work with and around very influential people, great leaders and wonderful mentors. One thing I learned early on in life was to take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves to you. My corporate employers had tuition reimbursement programs which paid for two of my degree program; AS Business Administration and BS Finance.
I took the mechanics that I learned and applied it to something that I had always excelled in “Numbers”. Accounting and the technology behind an accounting system was something I picked up easily and it all made sense to me. I enjoy helping small business, after all our country was founded on entrepreneurial spirit! The business world is always changing and there is a multiple of different things to learning in the field of accounting.
In the military, you learn quickly to define a target and accomplish the task; in the end your mission is complete.
In business your success is defined by numbers. Pulling the two concepts together I formed Striking Results.
Much like my Air Force career, I enjoy rolling up my sleeves and diagnosing what is wrong with an accounting system and related business processes, I make sure the system and all the components that help feed the system are working efficiently and that ongoing maintenance is performed to show Striking Results.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We work with our clients from the point of entry of the accounting system through fiscal yearend to ensure they have a financial dashboard from which to operate and are confident in the information provided to their CPA for tax preparation.
